MIXTAPE REVIEW: L.O - The Bad & The Gifted: The Bad Vol.1

Rating : 9/10

Listening now to LITES OUT better known as L.O…...'The Bad Vol.1, L.O's capstone 2014 release, it’s striking how easily the hits seem to come to the atlanta, ga artist. Even its unheralded tracks hit a sweet spot of purposeful insouciance that promises a career in the spotlight. With songs selected and sequenced largely by a variety of new producers, The Bad Vol.1 is a creative success because it sells L.O as a hitmaker. In the pre-Internet industry, perhaps that's just what he would be.

Tracks like "Situation" talks about life and situations a young man faces in this world today.
He stands out again on "Crack", which has a lot of energy and is sure to turn up the energetic crowds & club scene. Other joints like "Who F*cking wit me" , "Juice & Codeine" & our personal favorite "Whats Wrong Wit Em"are primed to L.O's consistent sound; each beat is of-a-piece, with brooding synthesized string and chorale patches moving in beefy quarter notes to conjure a grim yet electric atmosphere. All in all "The Bad Vol.1" prowls through back alleys, preferring gritty textures and coiled energy.
