Mixtape Review: Chris Ellenwood - Dream/ Awake

      Rating: 7/10

Bay area representer Chris Ellenwood, who hails from Sac Town aka Sacremento, California
drops the Dream/Awake project.

REVIEW:
As a newcomer and one who barely has a following, it seems the passion is in the "Hobby". Traditionally mixtapes from new artists are filled with singles and street anthems, as with "Dream/Awake" it falls short of any of the sort. However, we do give it the benefit of the doubt for its unorthodox, and original sounding concepts. Joints to check for "The Town", "The Other Guy" & "All In My Head". All in all "Dream/ Awake" is a solid effort but there is room for improvement in the near future for Chris Ellenwood.

Mixtape Review: Jay Hollin - The Architect

Rating: 8.5/10

Jay Hollin was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1989. Throughout the 90s – 2000’s Jay was inspired by such artists as Tupac,Eazy E, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, 50 cent, T-Pain, and the Neptunes. At home he grew up as an only child who listened to a wide rage of music. From 2004-2008 Hollin spent most of his time writing lyrics but focusing on school. After that the rest was history. From 2009-2010 Jay Hollin upgraded his recording software and began recording with his then label “SDIMG” after being recruited by another up and coming artist Soulja Corleone (Ceo of SDIMG). Mixtape Review: C.FRERE - Spliffsonian

 Rating : 7/10

C. Frere (CFMG - Corey Frere Musik Group) is a Jacksonville, FL based emcee with a gift for storytelling and rugged emceemanship. For C.Frere, hip-hop is a contact sport and you either go hard or go home. Alongside partner in rhyme, Capo, as one half of the rap duo 80 Proof, C.Frere was able to establish an underground following with their debut release Northeast Classick (2006) opening up for artists like UTP (Juvenile, Wacko, and Skip), Mobb Deep, Petey Pablo, and the Thug Misses Khia.

C.Frere is now armed with his first solo project, the highly anticipated Southern Smoke mixtape, called Spliffsonian. Backed by the World Famous DJ Smallz, Spliffsonian has plans to set the tone for the Jacksonville music scene with his blunted vocals and strangling word play. Influenced by West Coast legends DJ Quik and Spice 1, C. Frere was drawn to the vivid storytelling abilities and the portraits painted from the rugged truth.

Spliffsonian is an eclectic gumbo of slow riding, introspective music, woofer busting trap beats, and even more traditional hip-hop beats

MIXTAPE REVIEW: Adam Lobb - Unfinished Business Part 4

Rating: 7/10

Adam Lobb, who's by way of Treneere, a residential estate in Penzance is an artist who has a vision and passion for music. Rhyming since 2006 he started the music group "Lobbdem Music Group" formally "Treneere Lobbdem" where he created his own home studio set up while recording songs dissing people and getting an audience to tune in. By then Adam started making more music about his life, experiences and more serious topics. Adam has been dropping countless mixtapes and remixes, building a consistency with the approach to put out a real project. Adam's style is hard, edgy, melodic with reminiscent of a 2003 50 Cent/ G unit era.  "Unifinished Business Pt.4" touches many topics of Adams childhood, current events, politics and self motivation. Standout joints include ""Long Way To Go" , "I Gave It All To You" & "Look At What You've Done" which touches on great subject matter  & innovative realness. All in all, "Unifinished Business Pt.4" is worth being listened to all the way through. Stream & Download Below

Mixtape/ Artist Review: Dorian - The D.U.C.K. Tape

Rating: 8.5/10

This Chicago-based, Indianapolis native has experienced more in the first third of his life than most will throughout their duration. Born on an Air Force base in Abilene, TX, Dorian moved 7 times before he was 10 years old and 11 more times as an adult. This well-travelled MC-Producer comes from a middle-class two-parent home, has two college degrees and at one time was a Division I college basketball coach. Why hip-hop?

"In our (black) culture, the only time we educate ourselves is when someone is speaking on the mic. Music is the only time a speech is on repeat in the black community.", Dorian states. His many life experiences combined with his ability to deduct emotion from other people's lives makes him a great storyteller with a social conscious. Dorian is a self-taught producer (from YouTube videos) who released his debut project "The D.U.C.K. Tape" on 2/14/2015, exactly 365 days after he bought the production software.

Mixtape/ Artist Review: Some Guy - Random Human Male

Rating: 9.5/10

First off, let me say hip hop is definitely back on the forefront, especially with contributors like the dope, talented producer/beatmaker named "Some Guy" who by the way hails from Queens, NY. Its no secret that his musical influences are from the likes of greats like: J Dilla, Kanye West, Timbaland, The Neptunes, 9th Wonder&  DJ Premier to name a few.  He's no new kid off the block either, and in fact this dope beatsmith was recently featured in the Fall 2014 edition of Mr. Dreamz Magazine. He's also collaborated with Chris Noxx of Tha Piecemakerz, and is currently working on projects with Lee On The Beats of We The Best Music Group/Amazinz Music Group. Some Guy has been at it for some time now, making beats since 2010 and plans to turn his passion into livelihood with a strong confidence about 2015 and whats to emerge. His sound is dope and innovatively on point when it comes to different elements and concepts musically. Take a listen and peep the dope instrumental tape "Random Human Male" Below

Fayetteville, AR artist "AveryGee" paints his prolific vision by crafting a light, crisp experience on "Neonatal."

the 420 substance most love.
Listeners can appreciate the quality production picked, but may have a rough time with some of the records which may fall in place as FILLERS. Thus, Avery has much more to create in 2015, overall he does a cool job with the projects overall sound.
