MIXTAPE REVIEW: EsZ - Songs In My Sketchpad

Rating : 7/10

It would be an understatement to say that 2014 hip hop is'n elevating, but thanks to newcomers like Esz ( Erron ), the future of hip hop remains innovative. While he is no Talib Kweli, or Nas to say the least, Esz has  a penchant for putting just the right amount of heart and intellect into his project titled "Songs In My Sketchpad" which appears to be a signature brand of hip hop influenced rhymes & production. Growing up on legendary barrier-breakers like Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Jay Z and The Notorious B.I.G. , EsZ’s “Songs In My Sketch Pad,” resonates along the experimental lines of Gym Class Heroes, Lupe Fiasco, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar and J.Cole with what EsZ calls Conscious Alternative Hip Hop with an Alternative Pop spin. Tracks like “Rock, Paper, FAME” show word play and concept driven flow, while other favorites "S.I.M.S" ,"Falling Leaves" & the Randy Class assisted "Mind Drifting" show innovativeness at its best. All In all, EsZ takes an abstract approach to rhyming about his craft,

positive vibes, and the influences of culture in todays society. While EsZ's’s presence as an artist throughout the project provides enough diversity & originality, we are sure there is more to come from Esz in 2015 & beyond.
